“Ik heb mijn hele leven op die manier gereageerd op disrespect", zegt ze. “Maar nu zijn er camera’s op mij gericht, en dan botsen die reacties met het idee van wat een popster hoort te zijn.”

Roan is niet bang om haar mening te delen. Of het nu gaat om een fotograaf die zich misdraagt op de rode loper of fans die haar familie lastigvallen, ze laat zich niet doen. “Muzikanten worden getraind om gehoorzaam te zijn, maar dat is niet wie ik ben.”

Hoewel haar openhartigheid haar carrière niet altijd makkelijker maakt, blijft ze trouw aan zichzelf. “Als ik mijn instincten zou negeren en gewoon alles zou slikken, zou ik waarschijnlijk succesvoller zijn,” geeft ze toe. "En ik zou nu aan het touren zijn." Maar voor Roan is mentale gezondheid belangrijker dan roem. Daarom besloot ze haar tour vroegtijdig te beëindigen om op adem te komen.

Ondanks de kritiek blijft ze scoren. Haar debuutalbum 'The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess 'bracht haar maar liefst zes Grammy-nominaties op, waaronder die voor beste nieuwe artiest.

De live action-remake is gebaseerd op de geanimeerde ‘How To Train Your Dragon’-reeks, die uit drie films bestaat. De eerste kwam in 2010 uit, de tweede in 2014 en de derde in 2019. Ze warden allemaal genomineerd voor een Oscar in de categorie beste animatiefilm.

Het verhaal gaat over de jonge viking Hiccup, die op het eiland Berk woont, een plek waar het bevechten en uitschakelen van draken bij het leven hoort. Maar wanneer Hiccup bevriend raakt met een gewonde draak, wil hij er alles aan doen om de toekomst van zijn stam te veranderen.

De cast van de live action bestaat uit onder meer Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Kristen Wiig en Craig Ferguson.

De bioscooprelease van 'How To Train Your Dragon' staat gepland voor halverwege juni 2025.
